Thank you everyone involved at ECCA2023 and see you again at the next ECCA2025 in Italy!

14 July 2023

ECCA2023 organisers JPI Climate, with the EC Horizon-funded MAGICA project, our hosts and co-organisers University College Cork and MaREI, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine, would like to thank all the delegates who came in person or joined online, all the speakers, presenters, poster authors and artists.

Our grateful thanks go to our sponsors the Government of Ireland, Dublin City Council, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency Ireland), the European Space Agency (ESA) and CARO – Ireland's Climate Action Regional Offices.

None of it would have been possible without the many, many people who worked so hard behind the scenes, from the JPI Climate team secretariat at Belspo, the MAGICA team, the expert scientists on our organising committee, our hosts in Dublin at our venues Dublin Castle, Dublin City Hall and the Royal Irish Academy, our helpful event assistants, the European Commission and more.

We were overwhelmed by the welcome we all received in Dublin, from Dublin City Council including Lord Mayor Councillor Caroline Conroy, the Irish Government, the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum, the UCC Communications Team, our official photographers Paul Sherwood and Kevin McFeely and the Irish media. Many people from the European Commission and from Horizon projects across Europe dedicated their expertise and time to attend ECCA2023 to advance climate adaptation in the face of climate change and to share their knowledge and experiences.

We are all very grateful for your time and your support!

Next ECCA2025 will be in Italy

In his speech at the ECCA2023 closing plenary, Frank McGovern, Chief Climate Scientist at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland and Chair of JPI Climate, highlighted how in-person gatherings are essential for knowledge exchange and joining forces to tackle climate change. “The key takeaway from this year 6th European Climate Change Conference” he told the audience, “is that climate action is not good only for you. Climate action is good for everybody.”

Frank also revealed the country hosting the next edition of ECCA in 2025, which will be Italy!

Giulia Galluccio, MAGICA project coordinator, Director of the ISCD Division at CMCC and JPI Climate's Vice-Chair, was delighted, saying: “It’s a huge legacy for us to host ECCA 2025. As MAGICA project coordinator, we are deeply honored to have such an opportunity and we look forward to hosting it!”
